Time to relax and recreate
Sweetness and I had an opportunity to rest, relax, and visit with our very dear friends Aunt Brenda and Uncle Bill LeBlanc as we journeyed through New York where we stayed at the Seward Inn and then ventured off to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Canada where we stayed for another two days at the grand Victorian Inn. Both of which were wonderful bed and breakfasts. We had the opportunity to visit with one of my former clients and friends Dr. Catherine Vetrano and her husband Frank Battle for the Planet of the Apes film . After this R&R I am reminded that probably the best friend that we neglect is ourselves. What I mean by that is I believe it is really important for us to take care of ourselves through relaxation, introspection, laughter, and enjoying our friends and family.
Dr. Ron and his Trikke
Yesterday I had the opportunity to demonstrate my Trikke to a gentleman who saw an ad on TV and was fascinated with this machine. The Trikke is a three-wheeled cambering vehicle that is human powered. This machine utilizes Trikke Tech’s patented 3CV technology to allow a rider to propel forward without ever touching the ground. And the workout is amazing. Your heart rate will accelerate before you know it. The elegantly simple construction provides a stable 3-point platform that leans into the turn with the rider (that’s me below) while all three wheels remain in contact with the ground. A rider may reach speeds of up to 18 mph on flat ground (I’ve never got going that fast), ride 50 miles in one day, and climb the steepest of hills (with practice!). It’s great fun.
Celebrating my Wife
Sweetness, as I call her, is my wife Trish of soon-to-be 35 years, and I had a wonderful weekend together. We had the opportunity to have my “favorite youngest daughter” Brianne with us for a full day to honor her mom. Dinner at the Chop House in Cleveland followed by lots of laughs, a nice nap, and the two of them working on a new cancer blanket made the day seem very special. From a Mother’s perspective, what kinds of things make your Mother’s Day unique and valuable?
Personal Health & Weight Loss
For over 20 years I have been walking 3 miles nearly every day. Often with 4 pound weights in hand. Now that I’m in my 60’s I have learned that adding strength training to my aerobic exercise is very important. As such, I have recently began a 3-day a week 30 minute nautalus-type add-on routine to my walking. Now I have been doing this for only 3 weeks and yet am getting “antsy” in looking for some weight loss signs. Who out there reading my Blog has any insights they want to share with me to help me remove my “chub” from my stomach? While I don’t want to go overboard, I do want to take off about 15 pounds to get me to my “romance” weight. With a little more work, my Sweetness (wife Trish) will find me irresistable. I welcome your comments in the box below.
Financial Planning and Dentistry
In this current economic environment, in any econcomic environment for that matter, I believe it is important…no critical to develop or revisit your financial plan. When I hear that less than four percent of the dentists in this country can retire at the age of 65 and maintain their current standard of living, I am saddened. In my second career in the financial planning and investment management world, I discovered that this is a reality. Last week Trish and I devoted nearly an entire day with our financial planner, Dana Hastings, CFP,MBA, MS to discover how close we are to being on track for our financial certainty. If you have not taken the time with your spouse to create your economic future of choice I would ask you these questions: How would it feel to know when you could retire and know that date with certainty? What are the obstacles to making this path a reality? How much is enough? What are your plans for the next three to five to ten years as it relates to your spending needs and wants. For my clients, should you have any questions about the financial planning process, please take the time to discuss on our next call. Here is a question to any of my subscribers: “what would it feel like to go to work becacuse you chose rather than because you had to? I’d love to hear your comments in the box below.
